Vista RC2 on DFI NF4 / SATA RAID0 Dual Boot?

Recommended Posts

Hey All,

My First post here, but have been an avid reader for a couple of years now... Great site and forums... Please keep up the great work!

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has had any trouble installing and running Vista RC2, or any release for that matter, on a system comparable to mine as listed in my sig?

TBH, I have had the absolute worst time with Vista, from installing (think 400 BSOD's w/ 0x000007b stop errors) to random and OS destroying file corruption once Vista is installed and running...

If anyone has any knowledge they would like to share, I would be most grateful...

Thanks in advance,

Jeebs

I wish I could say I've actually tried installing Vista onto a RAID array, but alas no.

I've had no troubles installing the releases onto a comparable system sans the RAID Array without any hiccups other then the graphics card drivers.

I've even installed Vista onto a second box without any issues, again the only hiccups is the graphics card drivers.

Ok, so after all this time, I have been able to get Vista RC2 installed by using the RAID drivers that came w/ the mobo on floppy...

But for an RC2, it still went pear shaped after only 20 minutes.

Now my question is, is there anyway to delete the "Boot" folder that Vista left on my C: drive? It contains a file called "memtest.exe" and a bunch of folders containing undelete able files in each one...

I have been able to delete all the other shite that Vista left on my XP partition, but not this one folder or it's sub folders... I can't see what process is using it, but I get the old "access is denied" error...

Anyone?

TIA,

Jeebs

Hey Wilhelmus,

Thank you very much for your post... it worked, albeit not as simply as MS indicated in the article... I had to take ownership of each folder and file individually, as the apply to all items box did not work.

But I got rid of it in the end, and learned some really useful stuff.. again, thanks so much... I owe ye a pint:)

I have to say, I see a lot of posts everywhere saying they couldn't get Vista RC2 to run correctly on Nforce2 platform. I created a silicon array RAID-1 and used the driver provided for XP and was able to install with no issues except audio. Granted, the drivers were all "standard" but I was able to upgrade memory controllers, etc. with the XP nforce drivers. Audio was a pain in the ass though. Install, update, uninstall reboot...

Sony DL DVDRW Burner

Radeon 9600 AGP 256MB
