Random freezing with new mobo.. Plz Help !?!?!?!

I just installed a new motherboard into my girlfriends computer, She had an ECS K7S0M+ 1000Mhz with 480Mb DDR Ram PC-266. I bought a PCChips M8636G (mobo and AMD 2.15Ghz Processor Combo) becuase it works with the exsisting ram. also have a WD 80Gb hard drive.... after re installing windows and all required drivers the computer will freeze during playing the sims and somethings just because it wants to.... The old motherboard died becuase some capasitors( i know i spelt it wrong) were leaking and buldging due to a power supply failure( already replaced Power supply) Why would it keep freezing. is it possible that the processor needs to be broken in first?????

I would verify you have the latest chipset/inf drivers and also the latest graphics drivers for this motherboard.

 

Also, do you use the onboard graphics on this motherboard or a separate graphics card ?!?

 

It could be that some games just will not work properly with onboard or igp graphics.

Seems to me you have one screwed up combin of RAM there, like what do you have, four slots, with a 256/128/64/32MB combo? That's gotta be some old RAM, and my guess is some of it is dying.

 

Try pulling everything but the stick of 256, see if it's okay. If it still screws up, pull the 256 and drop in the 128, then keep trying combins until it works.

 

If anything is faulty, I'd guess the 64MB stick, and the 32MB, they'd be the oldest of the bunch.

More likely that there are two 256 mb sticks in the system. This is DDR RAM and the reported RAM is minus that shared by the onboard video, if that is being used, as jmmijo suggested. There should only be two slots for RAM on this board, if it is the one that I think it is.

 

What exact revision motherboard is this? There are a couple.

 

Are you sure that the RAM is certified to work on the mobo?

 

Relic is correct about the RAM possibly being the problem. Are both pieces the same make and model? If not take one out and try it with one stick. If this fails, try the other stick.

 

These motherboards can be fussy about RAM.

Hey thanks everyone... When i bought the motherboard i asked the technician for a mobo that would work with my ram cuz im on a limited budget. everything came out from the old computer.

This is just to update my reply yesterday... It seemed to have been one of the sticks of ram. I had one stick of pc266 and one stick of pc333 and it was the pc333 that was not working... but now it sometimes still freezes durning online game play... How can i test my hard drive to see if it is damaged?

Well, you can just run a whole surface scan under scandisk:

 

1) Open My Computer and right-mouse click on the local drive, normally this is the C: drive.

 

2) Select Properties and then click on the Tools tab and select the Error Checking option, Check Now button.

 

3) Make sure to check the boxes marked Automatically fix filesystem errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

 

This will require you to schedule a scan on the next boot cycle, click yes and reboot the machine. This process can take awhile so go grab a cup of joe or you favorite beverage and do something else while this is being done

You could have removed the defective capacitors

and re-capped the motherboard:
