Keyboard & Mouse Not working

Recommended Posts

Please have patience as I explain how I encounter myself in this predicament.

Problem: My Keboard & mouse do not work once windows xp loads

I tried to unwisely Edit my registry in windows xp (SP2) causing this problem by not properly reading all the instructions provided

A mistake i do not intend on repeating again

My DVD drives would disappear from my computer

Only to return once i restarted

So i googled my problem and found that the solution was as simple one, i read as follows:

"In the Registry Editor dialog box, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class and select the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} key, which appears as a folder.

In the right panel of the Registry Editor, select the LowerFilters line, and then choose Edit > Delete. Click Yes in the Confirm Key Delete dialog box.

Select the UpperFilters line, and then choose Edit > Delete. Click Yes in the Confirm Key Delete dialog box.

Close the Registry Editor.

Restart Windows."

Only problem is a did not read the "DO NOT DELETE ANY OTHER KEYS" Which was located in at the bottom of the page

And unfortunalty I DID.

I deleted the upperfilters for the next 3 keys down

Which was a mistake i found out once I restarted my computer

Now my mouse & keboard do not work once windows loads up

I can still get into the BIOS and perform any tasks pre windows

But once windows loads they stop working

Here is a list of things I have already tried:

To plug in a USB or PS/2 Mouse & Keyboard Did not work

Unpluging & Repluging Mouse & Keyboard Did not work

Safe Mode / Loading last know Configuration Did not work

Cannot peform System Restore

I have found one possible fix but with a time restrain

I could simply put my Mesh Cd (windows xp was not provided)

Boot from cd and install windows xp

Hopefully everything would be back to normal

That is a solution but not one im happy with

Since i still have a number documents that will be deleted once this operation had been completed

It does not give me any other options

I was hoping that another solution was possible

My next step is to take my hard drive to my friends computer

Set it as a slave and hopefully i should be able to retrieve

all the information needed.

But that will not be possible until the 4th of January He is currently on Holiday And the only one who has a computer that will support my ATA Hard Drive

If anyone has a solution that would be able to help me prior to his return it would be much appreciated.

Thank you for all those that have had the patience to read all of this and more so for those that might be able to provide me with a solution that will assist me out of this predicament i currently find myself in.

Did you try the recovery CD solution from the Mesh website located here?

The site does not allow a direct link to the page. Scroll down to -->support-->FAQ-->faq recovery.

If you do a repair of Windows, your data should be left intact.

Try a PS2 keyboard, if you get the keyboard working you can do the following:

Just get a copy of the registry keys you changed, from a friend's PC who is running the same OS.

On friend PC, start regedit and go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class

Then select File Menu --> Export

Copy the .reg file to a floppy/CD/USB Pen

Backup your registry first, then copy the .reg file you got from your friend's machine onto your machine then double-click and .reg file. After it updates; restart your machine and you should get your mouse and keyboard functionality back.

Hope that helps....
