PC2100 (DDR266) and PC3200 (DDR400) RAM

Recommended Posts

My old computer came with ASUS P4XP-X mother board and equipped with one 256MB PC2100 (DDR266) ram stick. Can I replace with PC3200 (DDR400) 1 GB ram ???

Yeah, you can replace the 256 stick with the 1 GB stick. Both are DDR, so you should not have any problems installing the card.

If you are still apprehensive about doing this, just take a look into your CMOS settings before the computer boots up. It should tell you if your RAM stick was recognized, as well as its size.

Thanks Myke.

I refer to Asus manual only indicates that PC1600 (DDR200) or PC2100 (DDR266) to be used. Do you think it would work perfectly that I replace with PC3200 (DDR400)??

Most likely it will just clock the speed of that memory stick down to the FSB of your CPU, either DDR200 or DDR266.

However, check on ASUS's website first and verify that you have the latest BIOS/FIRMWARE installed for you model motherboard. This usually helps with any possible timing issues when using faster then spec'd memory modules wink
