Tarquin2 0 Posted June 16, 2007 Right then, I've been trying to get Carmageddon II to work on my computer and after numerous patches it still wont work. (but the patches got the game working on another computer) Basicaly what happens is that when I choose "direct 3D" then "direct 3D HAL" for the game's display settings then click "Launch game" from the desktop little menu window thing, the screan goes black as if its going into the game but then it returns to desktop but all the icons are slightly distroted - but some icons don't even appear. Further more I some parts of the desktop don't restore and remain black. At this point I have to restart the computer to get everything back. I have patched my game with the offical patch which fixes bugs, then I used a spe[censored]t patch which makes it compatible with Windows XP (which made the game work for this computer) and then I tried something called the super patch which still didn't fix the issue. Oh and if I don't patch the game in any way then it just wont do anything after I click "launch game" (screan doesn't go black or anything) My system specs: 2.85 dual core processor, 2GB DDR RAM 2x Nvidia Geforce 7900GS's (in SLI) Windows XP SP2 Home eddition DirectX 9c And I do have the original Carmageddon II CD I've tried running the game without SLI - no differecne. I've tried running the game with each step in the patch process, tried it un patched, tried it with the first patch, tried it with the second patch but still no difference. If I choose "software render" for display settings then the game will load up and works but it looks vile (320x200 resolution) If I choose "Direct 3D HAL" then choose "software emulation", the game will load up but it'll look a little crappy and plays very slowly. I'm certain its either directX related or it doean't like my graphics cards and at this moment in time I've currently uninstalled the game ready for a clean install of it and a clean patch process. I will be trying again tonight with various things in mind but any help would be appreciated. Share this post Link to post
DosFreak 2 Posted June 16, 2007 The only way I've every gotten Carmageddon 2 to work is by using a glide emulator and playing the game in glide mode. Share this post Link to post
Tarquin2 0 Posted June 17, 2007 Umm yeah, sorry for the thread - I used the search feature on the forum and found an old thread about Carmageddon II which did have you mention about the glide emulator thing. I downloaded that and the game now works Share this post Link to post
