NTFS help

Recommended Posts

I recently was extracting a .rar file when i got the whole, this file is larger then 4gb thing. so i did a simple fat32 to a ntfs convert through my command prompt which started after i rebooted my computer.

no when i log on. almost nothing works.

desktop is still with no clicks working.

you can still see the cursor scroll.

only one program will boot before it stops.

the only way i am able to open and run things like firefox is through command prompt.

anything dealing with windows explorer does not work.

does anyone know what causes this and even better yet how to fix it?

Boot off the Windows CD into Recovery console, run a chkdsk on C: drive. Also you can try running CACLS to check the ntfs permissions which seems to have gone a bit haywire. You need to configure Everyone to have Read and Execute rights for C:\Windows and C:\Program files for starters.
