on a compaq computer i hear 2 long and 2 short beeps, what is the problem and what should i do??

What model Compaq is this?

 

Also, have you added any hardware, such as memory or a new video card? If so, try re-seating video or the memory.

 

If you added memory, did you assure that you matched the memory correctly?
