Coeur d'Alene (Idaho, USA) - DEVONtechnologies, LLC updates Desktop Transporter 2.6, its remote desktop solution, adds live previews of remote machines as well as server-side scaling and clipping, keychain support.

Version 2.6 gives those who manage multiple Macs across a network even more power with its new live preview technology. Desktop Transporter shows constantly updated thumbnails of all shared desktops on the local network so that the user always gets a perfect overview of what is happening on all the Macs under control.

The update frequency can be adjusted and the list of shared desktops filtered. The latter is especially useful for system administrators managing a few dozens of Macs or more. Desktop Transporter 2.6 uses server-side scaling and clipping for reducing network load and for increasing responsiveness. Keychain support makes it unnecessary to remember all the passwords for the shared machines.

About Desktop Transporter:

Desktop Transporter is a remote desktop solution that allows users to use other Macs on either the local network or the Internet without physically accessing them. Like the much more expensive Apple Remote Desktop, Desktop Transporter shows the screen of the remote Mac either in a window or in full screen and allows the user to interact with the other computer as if it was the local one.

A menu extra makes it possible to access remote Macs without launching the main Desktop Transporter application, while a background helper application takes care of sharing desktops even when the menu extra and main application are not running. Using Bonjour, the presence of a shared Mac on the local network is made known, making it unnecessary to pass IP addresses around. In addition, Desktop Transporter 'survives' Fast User Switching. A shared desktop remains shared even if the user switches to another user account.

Other features of Desktop Transporter, which is optimized for both Intel and PowerPC bases Macs, include: Clipboard synchronization for text and graphics in both directions, hardware acceleration, and support for non-English keyboards. The latter is one of the main drawbacks of free solutions such as VNC when used outside English-speaking countries.

Desktop Transporter was developed by Norwegian Mac developer Daniel Stodle and it is distributed by DEVONtechnologies, LLC. All rights on Desktop Transporter remain with Daniel Stodle.
