Aalsmeer, Netherlands - Mekentosj BV is pleased to announce the availability of Papers 1.8, the award-winning application that helps scientists on the Mac manage their personal library of scientific articles. Among the more than 70 improvements, Papers 1.8 brings additional built-in support for some of the most popular online article repositories, automatic detection of metadata in websites and PDF files, and full localisation in French and German.

With Papers 1.8 mek and tosj continue to expand the number of online article repositories that scientists can directly search from within their Apple Design Award winning program. Papers now includes an official plugin for the popular interdisciplinary archive JSTOR. It also comes with an official plugin for Scopus, Elsevier's high quality scientific webresource. Both plugins were developed in a close collaboration with the people behind the repositories.

Together these new plugins open up Papers to an even larger group of researchers on the Mac, from alpha to beta and gamma scientists, including those studying arts, language, politics, music, and economics.

Another exciting new feature in Papers 1.8 is the automatic detection of article metadata in both journal publisher websites and PDFs files. In a collaboration with Crossref Papers will now recognise DOIs (digital object identifiers) while the user is browsing the internet or importing a PDF file, and transparently retrieves associated metadata like author names, article title, publication date and more. This makes it even easier to manage, organize and search your personal library of science.

Finally, we are very pleased to announce that Papers 1.8 has been completely overhauled to support multiple languages, and now comes fully localized in French and German. And we hope to bring a number of additional languages in the near future.

Together with his friend Tom "Tosj" Groothuis he developed a number of scientific Mac applications, two of which won Apple Design Awards for best Best Student and Best scientific Mac OS X application, respectively. What started in his spare time became his passion and has now also become his work: mekentosj Inc. He aims to create new and innovative Mac OS X applications for scientists, of which his recently released new program Papers is a prime example, it recently won Alexander's third Apple Design Award.
