A3D with Soundblaster Live! Cards

Recommended Posts

Now that the latest version of LiveWare fully supports EAX 3D sound in Windows 2000 you can have 3D sound in Quake3 smile.

As you may know, Quake3 only supports 3D sound on Aureal cards but there is a way around this. Aureal created a wrapper for non-A3D cards that uses DirectSound for its 3D effects.

This is supposed to work on any soundcard but there are only a few that have been tested. Here is a list of the working ones: http://downloads.aureal.com/pub/Public/Drivers/A3D/readmea2d.txt

Here is the place to download the drivers: http://downloads.aureal.com/pub/Public/Drivers/A3D/a2ddrivers.exe

I wouldn't worry about this too much. Aureal might cease to exist soon; I assume the guys at id might feel a bit pressured to add EAX.

I can't say I am a fan of Aureal, but this is a crummy situation for the several million owners of Aureal hardware.

Am I also the only one that sees the humor in that press release?

Here is the line..

"to either sell the Company or its assets or wind down the Company."

Next line.. (standard boilerplate text)

"Aureal is a leading provider of advanced audio solutions for the computer"

And exactly what pack are they leading?
