BeTa2K 0 Posted March 26, 2000 Well, it isn't that simple. If your going to play todays new games, it'll require a high-end 3d accelerator with a good amount of onboard memory. Try playing Quake 3 on your generic svga card...if it's even possible. Thus, the reason why people including myself pay $150+ for a video card. Share this post Link to post
Guest Posted March 26, 2000 I have come to the conclusion that buying expensive video cards is just plain stupid. All you really need to get is a super vga card and windows is good. Next time you are tempted by fancy looking video card boxes don't give in. All they are is just hype and box design. I am running a generic svga card and I am fine. It's like why pay over 200 for a card when you could buy 20 of my svga card for that ammount of money. Share this post Link to post
Andy_25 0 Posted March 26, 2000 This post sounds an awful lot like the infamous jdulmage thread that went on for 7 pages. Of course it's not enough to have just an SVGA card. If you plan on playing any games you need at least a d3d or openGL etc supported card. If you only use a word processor, a plain old SVGA card may be enough, of course. But most of the time cards like TNT2, GeForce, v3 are well worth the money, if you play any games. Andy Share this post Link to post

jdulmage 0 Posted March 27, 2000 Andy_25, your right, it does sound like that But really, if your only planning on doing some small applications and running windows and that's it, then just get a small vid card. But if you want to run games like Quake, Unreal Tour, etc. then get a good one. I'm running a 16 MB RivaTNT Vid Card. See Ya.
