news 28 Posted June 16, 2008 NVIDIA is launching a new product line today known as GT200. A pair of retail products based on this architecture are being released called the GeForce GTX 280 and GTX 260 and at first glance appear to be nothing more than another entry into the gaming graphics market. And while they are impressive specimens for gaming GPUs, there is another side to the technology that NVIDIA is pushing just as hard: highly parallel processing power for general purpose computing. After taking a look at gaming performance with the two new GPUs, PC Perspective spent some time detailing the CUDA-based HPC benefits for consumers including an updated Folding ( -at -) Home client and video transcoding nearly five times faster than quad-core CPUs. The GeForce GTX 280 1GB card is an absolute powerhouse when it comes to pushing the top gaming titles to super HD resolutions like 2560x1600 and is able to best both NVIDIA’s and AMD’s previous flagship dual-GPU cards. Just be prepared to pay top dollar for those bragging rights and performance gains. The GeForce GTX 260 896MB is a much more price conscious card that is still a fantastic performer when compared to its direct competition in the market." Thanks for a post!
