Help! is my V3 3000 dying?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

This morning when I turn up the monitor, I found that my monitor doesn't reponse to my mouse movement, and got some weird strips on it. So I rebooted, the same happens during the bootup screen, and see nothing but dark on the desktop(win2k). Same appears to win98.

Now I'm posting this with safe mode on.

and here is a screenshot : http://spider.scorpions.net/~wolverin/snap.jpg

is there anything I can solve this?

(ASUS F2B-F

c366 oc 458

at first I was suspecting if it's because I overclocked, but even I switch back to 366, the problem is still the same...

What do you overclock your voodoo3 to?

it was set to 186 (I think a 3000 running at 3500 isn't too much=P) and it was running great.

I just tested on my friend's machine,

the image have strips even on BIOS screen...

How long did you overclock it for? Did you add a fan to it? I am running mine at default with a fan just to be safe. (fan on both sides! Like a sandwich)

Unfortunately, I fear that the damage may already have been done. Sometimes, if a chip fails due to overclocking the damage can be irreversable. If the card is less than a year old, send it back, and don't tell them that you've overclocked it!

hmm.. I think I've been oc it for a month... no extra cooling except for the hd fan and an extra fan at the back to help circulate the air inside the case.

Thank you for all your response... I guess I'll get the 2nd hand TNT2 from one of my classmate for the time being.. =) And give that TNT2 to my sister's computer when v5 comes out =P can't get a replace since I bought this OEM card elsewhere...I think I'll not buy a OEM component for o/c next time unless the warranty said it don't include oc =P

Well. I personally think that the card's goose is cooked.

At my old school we had a vidoe card fail in near enough exactly the same way you described.

It carried on like that, and then one day someone rebooted the computer and the vidoe card just died.
