news 28 Posted August 12, 2008 Hi everyone, Since its launch courtesy of the Radeon HD 4850 and 4870, AMD's latest RV770 graphics core has proved itself admirably at the price points at which has been sold. However, today sees the company looking to leverage these capabilities in the enthusiast sector, by teaming up two RV770 cores in a multi-GPU configuration. The result is the Radeon HD 4870 X2, and to accompany today's launch of this part we take a look at just what makes this particular offering what it is. AMD Radeon HD 4870 X2 technology preview "Anyone who has found themselves poring over the block diagram for an RV770 core will have noticed some die space used for a 'sideport connector'. If you ever wondered what it was for, now's your chance to find out. In addition to that PCI Express bridge, the sideport on each RV770 core can be directly connected to another RV770 GPU core for direct communication and data transfer between the two GPUs. Much like a PCI Express 2.0 16x link, this direct sideport connection offers up 5 GB/sec of bandwidth, given a total of 21.8 GB/sec of bandwidth across the entire board's interconnects compared to just 6.8GB per second found on the Radeon HD 3870 X2." http://www.elitebastards.com/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=601&Itemid=29 As always, a news post on your site would be hugely appreciated, and we guarantee to reciprocate by posting any news items received from yourselves.
