Direct3D is DOA (On TNT2)

Recommended Posts

My Direct3D worked great after a fresh install of win2k and downloading the nVidia reference drivers (3.78). Then something happened. I am pretty sure it was right after I did all the Windows Updates (including the MS Compatibility Patch). Whenever I would go to play a game of Carmageddon 2, I would try to invoke D3D mode, and CARMA2_HW would crash.

I tried loading the 5.16 drivers that I got off a link off of this board, but to no avail. (I couldn't even get those to work, but that is another story... I've reverted to 3.78) Now the D3D option is greyed out. I've tried running DXDIAG.EXE, and under the Display Tab, DirectDraw acceleration is enabled. If I try to test Direct3D acceleration, the software rendering passes, but It can't do hardware. It says: "Direct3D test results: Failure at step 18 (CreateDevice): HRESULT = 0x80004002 (No interface)"

Any ideas what that means? AGP Support also says "Not Available". That is also a mystery I'm puzzeled, because everything worked until that stupid MS compatibility patch. Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!
