news 28 Posted October 23, 2008 Hi everyone, PC gamers have been reaping the fruits of AMD's excellent RV770 architecture for a fair few months now at a variety of price points, but today sees the Radeon HD 4800 series break into the sub-£100 graphics board market for the first time. This has been achieved thanks to a reduced version of that same RV770 core, with certain functional units disabled and labelled with the Radeon HD 4830 moniker - To coincide with this launch, we have a look at HIS' take on the Radeon HD 4830, complete with custom cooling solution. HIS Radeon HD 4830 512MB video card review "RV770 certainly packs plenty into that transistor count, with a full core sporting a massive 800 Stream Processors to handle and process vertex, pixel and geometry shader data, arranged as arrays of sixteen units (or SIMD cores), of which there are ten. The cut-down version of RV770 used in the Radeon HD 4830 has two of these SIMD cores disabled, giving a total of 640 Stream Processors for it to play with, together with eight dedicated texturing units. The Radeon HD 4830 features that cut-down RV770 core we mentioned with a couple of SIMD cores disabled, as well as clock speeds lower than the higher priced Radeon HD 4850, which sees it utilising a GPU core clock of 575MHz, with the 512MB of GDDR3 memory on-board clocked at 900MHz (1800MHz effective)." http://www.elitebastards.com/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=627&Itemid=27 As always, a news post on your site would be hugely appreciated, and we guarantee to reciprocate by posting any news items received from yourselves.
