KeyCue 4.3 offers user-configurable activation and other improvements - Published on 11/19/08

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ergonis Software today announced KeyCue 4.3, the company's popular keyboard shortcut cheat sheet. The new version offers user-configurable activation, can show menu shortcuts and Keyboard Maestro macros together in a single table, includes a new technique for flexible adaptation to peculiarities of certain applications, and other improvements.

Hagenberg, Austria - Ergonis Software today announced KeyCue 4.3, the company's popular keyboard shortcut cheat sheet. In the new version, the keyboard combination used for activating KeyCue can be configured in a flexible way. This assures that KeyCue will no longer inadvertently come up just because you pressed the command key a little bit too long. KeyCue 4.3 also allows to display menu shortcuts and Keyboard Maestro macros together in a single table and includes a new technique for flexible adaptation to peculiarities of certain applications.

"When we initially designed KeyCue, we found that the command key was the proper activation key for KeyCue, since this is also the key used to trigger menu shortcuts. But since keyboard shortcuts became more and more popular, many applications use other modifier keys for keyboard shortcuts nowadays. After we had added support for Keyboard Maestro in KeyCue 4.2, we were finally convinced that one hard-wired activation key would no longer be flexible enough for the different needs of our customers. The new version therefore supports configurable key combinations, including a quick 'double tap' of a single modifier key."

The productivity paradox of keyboard shortcuts is that shortcuts were designed to increase productivity. However, productivity actually decreases when applications provide large numbers of shortcuts, in particular when the shortcuts are defined inconsistently across applications. KeyCue's elegantly simple solution is to detect and display an instant overview of all shortcuts, i.e., the overall functionality of any application. Over time, KeyCue users will automatically remember frequently used shortcuts and start working more efficiently.

KeyCue has already received many awards, including a 4.5-Mice award from MacWorld magazine.
