"DRM Free content is not a new idea, but we feel we are one of the first to actually include a custom made, DRM Free "Apple device" ready version on the disc," says Josh Rizzo, Co-director of the film.

 

"The file is iPod and iPhone compatible. You don't even have to drag and Drop," says Rob Baca, Co-director of the film. "All you have to do is double click on the file and it will copy itself into your iTunes library. No pass-codes, no downloading, no ripping."

 

The announcement of the digital bonus version signifies the filmmakers' commitment to making "Welcome to Macintosh" available to Apple and Mac fans all around the world. It has already been announced that the DVD is Region free, making it playable on nearly any computer or "region locked" DVD player in the world. The addition of the DRM Free version makes it viewable virtually anywhere.

 

"There is an ongoing struggle in the entertainment industry between meeting consumer expectations and protecting copyright interests of content Producers," says Rizzo. "We find ourselves in the middle of this conflict, and we side with the consumer."

 

"It takes about 30 minutes to rip a fully protected DVD, and maybe another 30 to put it on the net," says Baca. "We realize that it will inevitably happen to "Welcome to Macintosh" so we decided to include the file for those who would prefer not to break any laws simply to enjoy their purchase on any device they own."

 

"We worked hard to offer as much value to the consumer as possible." says Baca. "With chapter marks, box art and iTunes metadata, this file is more functional than what you would ever be able to find on an illegal file sharing site."

 

"We have received an overwhelming demand for the DVD and are very close to selling out of the first run," says Rizzo. "Every step in the production chain is working hard to get it in the mail for Christmas delivery, or very soon thereafter."

 

With acceptance in five international film festivals, "Welcome to Macintosh" is reaching its goal of bringing the story of Apple and the Macintosh to the new generation of iPhone and iPod users around the world. The filmmakers have some exciting public events planned for the coming months, all to be announced through their website and social network.

 

"Welcome to Macintosh" is the first documentary of its kind to mix history, criticism and an unapologetic revelry of all things Apple into a movie experience. The film explores the early years of Apple, the many challenges Apple has faced, and what the future may hold for the company and its products.

 

Ex-Apple employees, engineers and community members offer insight on the company's innovations, failures, cultural impact and what the future may be like beyond the reign of its co-founder Steve Jobs. Interviews include notable Apple personalities Andy Hertzfeld, co-creator of the original Macintosh, Guy Kawasaki, long time Mac evangelist, Leander Kahney, author of the book "Cult of Mac", Jim Reekes, creator of the Macintosh start-up sound and Ron Wayne, original co-founder of the Apple Computer Company.
