Don´t call 5.30 a reference driver!

This is a leaked beta version - nothing else. I had a look at the nvidia homepage - reference driver is still 5.22.

actually they are not beta drivers just for some reason Nvidia just puts up certain versions on their site. Dont jump down people's throats either

i just installed them. was using 5.16. q3 went from 59.6 to 60.3. dunno bout d3d. i didnt test anything. no crashes since i installed them about 25 min ago

Works great no problems at all in SMP either ( except for the 20 FPS loss in SMP mode in Quake III )

hmm, i tried enabling hibernate support, but when i actually try to hibernate, windows says my geforce drivers are causing problems or something. seeing how i never tried hibernating before (i felt like tinkering tonite: leaked drivers, hibernate, etc) do the previous versions allow hibernating, like the 5.16's i was using. i dont feel like swapping back to 516 only to find out that it still wont work and then put 530 back on.

Call me crazy..but I never use hibernate. Or sleep. In all honesty, I'm not overly sure what it does.

 

I leave my computer on all the time, and use the ctrl alt del lock....

 

Am I missing out?

sleeping is dumb, I think. nothing turning off your moniter or a screen saver can do ... you actually RISK your current state by sleeping ... win98 used to crash a lot, too, till they released a fix, but it's still not totally stable.

 

Anyway, the best thing to do, is what I do. password protected screen saver that kicks in after a minute. if I get up to go to the bathroom, no one's gonna use my computer if you know what I mean. when I come back, I hit alt-ctrl-del and the admin or myself can login. It's not like windows where you enter the screen saver password. It's your NT/2000 login.

Appologize for not stating clearly in the beginning.

 

LLion is correct, it is an Unofficial Nvidia Reference Driver.

 

So far so good, no stability problem on this driver. But SMP still get 20% performance hit.

I gave them a try.

No particular improvement noticed.

Opengl still broken in UT, so I stay with 5.14...

As far as hibernation is concerned, I am very happy with it. Tis nice to find my desktop exactly as it was. OK, it is for home use so I have no prob with somebody switching on the box. Would not do that at work of course.

I just iunstalled the 522 driver set on W2K for my Asus v3800 TNT2 Ultra. I saw that Asus released new drivers v3.84a for the V3800. Which should I use, the NVidia or the Asus?

Driver from yoru manufacturer usually coupled with a few fancy options, while Nvidia Reference Driver (official/unofficial) usually are better than the manufacturer's driver in performance wise.
