Jetseller 0 Posted June 29, 2000 I am a newbie to Windows NT. My new Gateway dual processor (733) dual SCSI HD, using Windows NT4.0, computer, was delivered a few days ago. The computer has a DVD player installed. Gateway informed me that there aren't drivers available for the DVD player using NT, but could be available in the future. I also have purchased a Pioneer SCSI 303 DVD player along with a Pioneer SCSI DVD 201 burner. Can any NT expert please advise me if a DVD player can be installed into a NT system and what are the necessary requirements. Thanks in advance for the help. Share this post Link to post
Sparkhard1 0 Posted June 29, 2000 Hey, i am not to sure about win NT ,,, but i do know that you can use them on Win2000.. I have a few friends that have a Pioneer DVD player ,,, however they arent on a SCSI and win NT 4.0 ,,,, i dont think the fact that they are on a SCSI has anything to do with it... try going to www.windrivers.com and see if you can find some drivers there.... if not ,, i guess you hafta wait like a lot of us for drivers .... To read DVD's you need to have support for the UDF filesystem, you can get this at www.adaptec.com it should also be in the drivers supplied, (somewhere). Thats all you need to read DVDs like a normal cdrom. To play movies you need the above, plus a decoder. This can either be hardware (a card) or software. Its most likly you have a cord such as the hollywood, or creative DX2 or 3, the drivers are still in beta, so the supplier have probably not included them, until they are finalised. However you can download the beta drivers (with the odd crash or 2, from the device maufacturer) For software decode, programs like powerdvd ( http://www.cyberlink.com.tw/ )and windvd are the latter. I recommend powerdvd. I don't recommend windvd, as the demo destroys both my win9x and win2000 installations, and I've done it stupidly lots of times! But if you've got a new PC you shouldn't those sort of problems. Make sure you have NT upto date with the latest service packs. I have sometimes found that installing sp3 before the latest one fixes the odd problem here and there, but your NT cd should come with these already pre-installed nowadays, I don't know because I have the first release of NT4, no patches supplied!
