Voodoo and Geforce in the same system?

Recommended Posts

Is there anyone successfully using a Voodoo 2 card and a Geforce card in the same box under W2K? I was thinking if I could get my hands on a Voodoo 2 card I could play Diablo II and some other games under W2K. Or is there way for a Voodoo 3 and a Geforce to coexist in the same system, because I have one of them laying arounf collecting dust.

Any thoughts?

I know exactly what you mean wink

OK, since your AGP slot is already used by your GeForce you´ll need a PCI voodoo board. (what am I typing here?! Of course you know _that_!)

Yes, it is possible, I´ve got a GeForce and a Voodoo 2 running together in perfect harmony in my system. For the Voodoo 2 however, don´t use 3DFX´s W2k drivers but use the modified NT drivers which are version 3.03 and should be found on www.reactorcritical.com . So, why´s that? Simple, the 3DFX drivers will make your Voodoo 2 board another primary video device with which I´ve not been able to get pictures on my screen. The modified NT drivers however are working flawlessly, tradeoff is they don´t support D3D... ... hmm, what if one imports the D3D registry settings from W9x? Interesting question, gotta check it out for myself. Don´t know how it would work with a Voodoo 3, sorry. frown

If you can´t find the specified drivers, send an e-mail to:

Preacher.@gmx.net (Yeah, that´s a dot after "Preacher" wink )

or ICQ me:

If you choose to ICQ me, on requesting authorization please give me a quick hint so I know who you are. Too many spammers at the moment laugh

Well it worked. Adding that old V2 card makes life much better when playing Diablo II. I would suggest to anyone, if you have an old V2 laying around slap it your box it will come in handy.

HI!

I have also a pair of Voodoo2s laying around and think about giving them a last chance to run UT in SLI glide, which should be great.

Which drivers are you using? The nt4 set modified by 3dfx themselves or the so-called "hacked" one. Both are available at reactorcritical'site.

Preacher e-mailed me some drivers to use and they are working fine. I did however update to the latest 3DFX drivers without any problems. It's so nice to see Diablo II the way it should be.

Since D2 only runs in D2D mode, and a slightly enhanced D3D mode, what is the big difference? I have a geforce DDR and some v2 sli boards sitting on a shelf. Why would I want to run D2 in glide over my geforce? Enlighten me please? :}

You may not want to run your V2, but for me I had no choice since I was having a problem running my Geforce 2 64meg card. Since D2 supports glide and I had one of the cards sitting around not doing anything I gave it a try. The graphics are much better since I could not get D2 to work at all with my GF2 and W2K.

That's a good enough reason for me.

the 3DFX V2 drivers worked for you??? How did you handle the board being installed as secondary video device? I tried tampering with the multi monitor settings which were then available but that was not successful. No video if using glide with these drivers.

I used the drivers you sent me to install the board, then after things where working I figuired i would try to upgrade to the new drivers. Once I did and rebooted my system there where no problems at all. It's installed under Sound,Video and Game Controllers. I installed a second board last night so now I have SLI. Not that is will help with D2 but I had one so I installed it.
