DMA in Win2k

Recommended Posts

I have 2 drives on my primary IDE chain. Both are ultra DMA 66 drives. The primary is always in PIO mode, while the secondary registers in UDMA mode. I have "use DMA when available" selected.

Why am I not getting UDMA on both drives?

TIA

What chipset are you using? Is is a VIA? You should look for a bios upgrade and make sure to check your bios making sure DMA is selected in the bios.

Make sure the drive itself has UDMA enabled. All hard drive manufacturers have utilities posted on their site that allow you to toggle UDMA on and off.

I am running a VIA chipset and have updated all the drivers. And when I boot up it says that both drives are in LBA, UDMA 66 mode.

I got it working. I removed the VIA IDE Controller from device manager, restarted. When Windows came back up, it reinstalled and put it back in UDMA mode.
