Corinthian 0 Posted August 2, 2000 After a fresh install of Windows 2000 Pro, my monitor is locked at 60 hz when I play games (in 1024x768). I used to have 85 hz. I use the 1.01.03 beta driver. Any ideas ? Share this post Link to post
Toby 0 Posted August 4, 2000 I had this problem in Win98SE. When I changed the monitor type to Plug&Play, the options came back... If its allready set to Plug&Play, try change it to Default Monitor. Mine is set as DefaultMonitor right now, no problem. // Toby Share this post Link to post
Corinthian 0 Posted August 4, 2000 No, that didn't solve anything. The problem isn't that I don't have the options to choose refresh rate in Windows. Whenever I run a game (I have only tried Glide based games so far, I don't know if I have the problem in Direct 3D as well) the refresh rate defaults to 60 hz, which of course is bad for my eyes. Before I reinstalled Windows 2000 the refresh rate was at 85 hz in 1024x768 in games, but I used some earlier drivers then. Is there a way to fix this ? Edit the registry ? Or hack a .inf-file ? Toby 0 Posted August 4, 2000 Damn ! I just checked UT on my machine and I got the same thing, it defaults to 60hz in glide ! Found the solution on another board: " I thought i would post this as a lot of people are running Windows 2000 nowadays and having problems with their refresh rates defaulting to 60hz when using the newer drivers. This fix sets your chosen refresh for D3D, Glide / OpenGL and your desktop. *IMPORTANT BACK UP YOUR REGISTRY BEFORE TRYING THIS* Open your registry editor by going to - Start, Run then type in regedit. Goto the following Key "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services" You'll notice right at the top a key with a name called "3DFXVS" (or something very similar) so open that. Theres a sub key called "TIMINGS" Within that key is the various resoloutions eg: 800,600 640,480 1024,768 open a resoloution and you'll notice that there is the various refresh rate keys supported within. Eg: 70hz 85hz 60hz 120hz To set your prefered refresh rate simply delete any keys that are lower than your chosen refresh rate for that resoloution. eg: to set a refresh of 85 you would delete, the 70 and 60 keys. Repeat this for every resoloution your run then simply reboot. Dave Oops, 1 thing i forgot to mention is that when you open the *3DFXVS* key, you'll see 4 devices listed The 1 you want is *Device0* So open that Key right after opening the *3DFXVS* key" It worked for me.... // Toby Share this post Link to post
