Yamaha 4x2x6 cdrw erase speed?

Hey I have a scsi yamaha 4x2x6 burner and I don't know if this thing is messed up. My friends ide HP 8x4x32 can erase a cdrw in just under 1 minute using the quick mode, on my yamaha it takes almost an hour with using the same erase mode. Any ideas whats wrong? Or is this normal. Both quick and full erase modes take the same amount of time, around 40-50 minutes
