The disappearing CD-Rom drive...

Recommended Posts

greeting all! This is my first post on this forum and I am a new Windows 2000 professional user. Ok here is the problem:

I installed Windows 2k on a freshly formatted HD and everything loaded flawlessly. Then on the final reboot Windows loads BUT my primary Cd-Rom drive has disappeared... The one that the OS installed off of! I cannot read any discs on the Cd-Rom and I have to turn the computer on and off a few times before it will detect it. Sometimes on a cold boot it is there and sometimes it isnt... I cant figure it out and so I hope that one or all of you can shine some light on the problem for me. Here is my system setup:

Intel 600 EB

256 megs of crucial technologies RAM Cas 2

Asus P3v4x Mobo

Creative 32 x CD rom (yes this is the disappearing one)

HP 7200i Cd-burner

Leadtek GF2 card

Sb Live value card

Compaq 56k external modem

Windows 2k professional

Thanks in advance
