dlever 0 Posted August 15, 2000 In 98, or ME you can go to drive properties and tick the drive as removeable. I have hard drives in hot swappable caddies -if I go to add remove hardware in Win2k, there is no option for making a drive removeable. However, if I pull the drive out while the system is running, I get an advice saying that I need to set it ' ejectable' . Am I missing something? Share this post Link to post
Lord-Data 0 Posted August 31, 2000 not exactly. well, not to my knowledge. i have one of my 2 drives as hotswapable. usually i just go into teh device manager, remove the hdd, then unplug it put teh new one in, and right click, and select scan for new hardware changes. it will find the new hdd, and off you go. repeat to restore the original drive. if your just removing one to use elsewhere, just remove it, and scan for changes when you get round to putting it back in the machine. might be a little more messing around, but i dont (think) win9x/me will let you actually SWAP the drive, with anotehr one of different type/size, as they require teh bios to know of the hdd. Down8 0 Posted September 1, 2000 Since this came up, does anyone know of some hotswap bays for SCSI hdds [50pin, both 1/2" and 1"]? I have an external box for 2 of them, and 2 of them internal, but I would prefer to just swap out all of them through the external box, to clear up some room inside my case. -bZj Share this post Link to post
