I would suggest that 128mb is the minimum recommended amount for Windows 2000 Pro, not 192mb. Windows 2000 manages the memory quite well and, aside from disabling unneeded services, I would just leave it as is. Good luck :-)

I have 192 megs (3x64)also on my machines.

99% of the time smooth as a baby's ... face.

Pagefile is fixed 384 megs (192x2)on fastest drive.

Best combination for me (especially for UT).

Should be OK for you if you do not do huge image processing. smile

Well my problem is that I cant figure out which services I can set to manual or disable. I have read some of the articles at various sites but everytime I take their advice something seems to get screwed up

I have tried all possible combinations on different machines and/or configs.

My conclusion is : do not try to change any service setting or you will screw your setup, sooner or later or sloooooow it down at the best, unless you exactly know what you are doing and why.

Gains are negligible anyway.

Win2k will summon the right service when it need it.

Let it do its os job.

Too much tweaking in this area is definitely bad.

Yes, I have read a lot of bull$$$t at many websites, taken from Microsoft doc.

My 0.02 cent :

Be happy with your basic os setup. You better tweak video, connexion speed, sound, etc.

I would just leave things as they are. W2K manages memory very well. If you are not going to use a printer you could disable the spooler and the messenger service is not needed. But all in all just leaving things as they are is the best way to go.
