CM 1 Posted September 8, 2000 Found this in the news archive: Soyo 6VBA Bios Problems Posted Thursday, August 31, 2000 Yoh Jinno send once again words that the new Soyo bios cause problems under Windows 2000. 6VBA 133 BIOS files file name: vba-2baa.bin checksum: 51D7 release date: 08/29/2000 BIOS revision: 6VBA-2BAA Changes: Fixed register DIMM can't boot with 133 frequency. Add "PhoenixNet enable/disable" function. Support Cyrix III. ----Result: Soyo did it again 3rd time in a row..what a great fix. This time: Windows 2000 ...finds no Floppy disk Drive at boot, and it installs a driver....asks me to reboot ....OK..reboot...the same situation. I put my old bios back. vba-2ba3.bin ---SEEMS THIS IS THE MOST STABLE BIOS EVER ISSUED BY SOYO. No more missing floppy drive under windows 2000. For Fairness? It works fine with Windows 98. (As I dual boot) past problem 1: Windows 2000 ...cannot remember resolution registry esp ATI 128 graphics card ( mine is ATI ALL IN WONDER 128 16MB) and it turns out that it has difficulty in keeping correct registry information from various applications. 2: Now the above problem has been fixed...but if Windows 2000 resides on FAT32, registry shall be corrupted so easily. 3: I did not test. 4: 6VBA-2BAA --- See problem above. Windows 2000 FAT 32 drive, Floppy Drive problem. Look like their bios cause many problems. Get another mobo if you can (not from soyo). Share this post Link to post
CM 1 Posted September 8, 2000 Found another one.... Soyo 6VBA 133 BIOS Problems Posted Thursday, June 29, 2000 Yoh Jinno send me the follow message concerning the new 6VBA 133 BIOS. Unfortunately, SOYO did not test this new fixed bios properly. 1: Under NTFS, Windows 2000 - fresh install works. 2: Under FAT32, Windows 2000...fresh installs fails -exactly the same as before. I cannot change resolution from 640 to higher resolutions. ATI All IN WONDER 128 Also, noticed that some registry can never be properly saved..thus, Event Viewer shows tons of problems with fresh install. So again, I went back to BIOS Revision 6VBA-2BA3. Note: If Bios was replaced with Windows 2000 already installed. Windows 2000 seems working ok. So it is still very dangerous .... For example...you bought a new mother board...and try to install a new OS (Windows 2000) You got a system with this motherboard...and OS was preinstalled (mostlikely...not a regular install..but image type installation.) and you must reformat hard disk to do a fresh install.
