Herndon, Virginia - Zerion Software was involved in the two projects that won the Golden Dot Award from the Institute for Politics, Democracy, and the Internet, at George Washington University. Each year, The George Washington University organizes and hosts the PoliticsOnline Conference in Washinton D.C.. The best internet projects each year related to politics are up for awards. This year, the Twitter Vote Report and Inauguration Report, won the Best Mashup category.

The projects, VoteReport and InaugurationReport, were Crowdsourcing Political Journalism projects. In plain English, it's using social network technology to allow the public to document political events. During last year's election and the inauguration in January, the team applied the same technology used in social networks to the iphone applications, so people could share their collective experiences. The result was a huge amount of data (text, photo, audio, video) with geo location information. The project collected data through Twitter, SMS, Filckr, Youtube, iPhone and Android clients. Media outlets were given access to the data for use as they saw fit to enhance their own reporting capabilities; thus the name mashup. The project was completely open-source.

The project was organized by NPR, Tech President, American University, and CBS News. There were over 20 developers participated in these projects, including Sanford Dickert from Contagious Conversations, Dave Troy from TwitterVision, Andrew Turner from GeoCommons, Sze Wong from Zerion Software, and Nathan Freitas.

Both projects utilized Zerion Software's iPhone data collection technologies.

Twitter Vote Report was an all-volunteer network of software developers, designers, and other collaborators that have teamed up with the award-winning blog 'techPresident' to launch this effort.

Using Twitter Vote Report, voters were able to share their experiences and resources with one another, to solve problems quickly (e.g. "don't come now, the line is too long"). Voters could report their experiences and problems via one of four channels: Twitter, Phone via SMS, iPhone and Android apps. These messages were then aggregated and mapped so that real-time voting problems around the country could be identified.

"I am excited and proud to be part of this project. This is further evidence that massive mobile data collection is useful beyond the enterprise space. We will continue to support initiatives like this in the future." Sze Wong, President of Zerion Software. "In the coming weeks, we will announce and release the exZact data collection platform, which will allow organizationa to create applications like the Twitter Vote Report client with zero programming."

Zerion Software's other recent projects include iGravy (Based on their iStar platform) and Rochambeau, a mobile networked game. Zerion Software has an aggressive strategy in the iphone development space, from Product Development to Consulting Services.
