INFERNO2000 0 Posted September 25, 2000 I just bought a new motherboard(Tekram P6Pro-A+ for $52 on ebay)...Via Apollo Pro 133 chipset. I'm going to be overclocking my PIII 500 katmai(pre-Coppermine) from my Compaq with it. I'm curious if I can reasonably expect to get to the 133 mhz FSB (666 Mhz CPU)...and can I reasonably hope to surpass that?(the motherboared was made for the 133 FSB...so I think I can run that, thus overclocking the CPU, but not the rest of the hardware. (Please tell me if this thought is incorrect) My other peripherals are a Voodoo3 3000 AGP, an ISA NIC, a Soundcard, and the mouse and other standard peripherals. Share this post Link to post
Gerbache Kaznet 0 Posted September 26, 2000 My P3-500 is currently overclocked to 550. I can run 575 as well, but anything above that refuses to boot. The catch is that I'm running a BX chipset, so I'm not too sure if that limit is due to the chip itself or the rest of my system refusing to run that fast. Good luck to ya! MoreLight 0 Posted September 26, 2000 I saw your post today and did some messing with a PIII550 slot one in the P3B-F. The highest bus speed it would post at was 124 with VCore set to 2.5 = 682Mhz. It wouldn't load the Kernel for Advanced Server. The fastest it would boot and run Server at was 120 with VCore at 2.2 = 660MHz. Ran stable at that speed, played MP3's no problem and Motherboard Monitor reported cpu temp about 24degC. However, as soon as I started playing any game using D3D, it immediately did a core memory dump and required a shut down. If the OS had been Win98, it probably would have been fine. I think you should be able to get over 600Mhz with your 500, but if you plan on running it in any Win2000 OS, you are going to have problems there. Share this post Link to post
