SB live!, win2k, and kt133

Recommended Posts

hello all,

i just got a tbird 800 today (YAY! smile and a Asus a7v mobo. well all seems to be working well, except for my sound. problem is there is none. when i try to run lw3 for win2k install, it says i dont have a sb live! in my comp. i tried my sb live! in 2 different PCI slots. and made sure it was in there real tight but still no luck. anyone got any ideas?

also, i had the card in a mpv3 k6 based board before this. the mvp3 board died. frown but all my other cards seem to be ok. (My TNT2U, and my NIC) this troubles me. you dont think it took down my sb live! with it do u?

also there was some on board audio codec or somethin or other that it talked about in the manual. i'm not sure what this is. should it be disabled or enabled or what?

thanks,

Tristan.

also, here is my system config:

T-Bird 800 on KT133 chipset

128 meg PC-100 ram

Viper V770U w/ detonator 3 drivers

Netgear 10/100 NIC

PCI 56k modem

13 gig WD HDD w/7.2 gig Win2k partition, the rest win98

SB Live! value that is currently out of commission frown

What you can try to do is uninstall the drivers for the Sound Blaster Live, then reboot and Windows will find the soundcard again and prompt you for drivers.

Point it to the Microsoft WDM Sound Blaster live drivers and when they are installed download the latest SB Live drivers for Windows 2000 from Creative. Install these and reboot and it should all work.

PS: After the drivers are installed and working you can try to install LiveWare 3 for Windows 2000.

ok. i turned my comp on today and it detected my card just fine. strange... o well.

one thing that has been happening since i had my mpv3, is that it pauses for about a minute or so when windows is loading. at first i thought it was freezing, but i noticed yesterday that it continued the start up after a little bit. it's no big deal since i dont restart that often, just kinda annoying. anyone have any ideas?

ps. i have the same video card(V770U), sound card(SB live!), and NIC(Netgear PCI 10/100). could one of this, or a combination be the problem?

thanks,

Tristan

I had the same problem with my Live! card too. It turned out that the leads on the bottom of the card where it plugs into a slot are VERY small. The card didn't sit well at all and it liked to disappear at will. I finally took a screwdriver and pried the gap open that you use to hold the card down with the screw. After playing with it for a while with some pliers I was able to tighten the screw down with the card all the way in the board. I rigged it in such a way so that it was also tight if you tried to pull on the ports. That fixed all problems with it.
