"German Course" is designed to help people learn German quickly and easily whenever they have a few spare minutes. The course material was written by Judith Meyer, host of the popular educational podcast GermanPod101. She was inspired by the iPhone's huge untapped educational potential: there were no language courses tailored to the iPhone before "German Course". Since Judith and Chuck already host GermanPod101, it made sense for this proven team to release a German-learning app to anyone with an iPhone or iPod Touch. The true innovation is the lesson format. In contrast to traditional textbook lessons, you can complete a German lesson in the time it would normally take you to check your e-mail or catch up on Twitter. This means that iPhone owners don't have to wait until they have an hour or two to study, but instead they could just pull out their iPhone and take advantage of time normally wasted, like on their daily commute or in a waiting room. "Instead of checking email or Twitter every chance they get, everyone could be learning German!" said Chuck Smith. The app features an ideal combination of audio and visual input, making the course much more useful and effective than ebooks or podcasts that people may also have on their iPhone. Beta testers were surprised at how well the app teaches. "Quick and entertaining, these little lessons are surprising effective." says Jack Repenning, CTO of Collabnet, who was initially skeptical of how much of a foreign language he could actually learn on his iPhone. Smith previously released "German [censored]", a successful and unconventional app which helps German students learn noun genders. Other applications: * Chess Player * Go Player * German [censored] System Requirements: * iPhone or iPod Touch * iPhone OS 2.2.1 or later Pricing and Availability: German Course is currently available for purchase on the iPhone App Store for $4.99 (USD). The price will rise to $7.99 after another 25 lessons are added, but early buyers will get these additional lessons in a free update as soon as they are available.
