Sound cards

Recommended Posts

what kind of sound card should I get? I mean, I have a SoundBlaster 128 and i'm pissed to see that Creative doesn't know how to release drivers for it..

I was thinking maybe SoundBlaster Live

what should I get? I want one from a company that updates like they should.

surely the lack of functioning tone controls isn't enough to force a new purchase!

I don't recommend the live! as its a bit choppy, and although as a good DSP on board for effects, and also EAX. However, it still isn't as good as my PCI64v (es1371) at mixing MP3s in winamp, with win2000. The 64v can run directsound 100ms@1k (latency/blocksize), compared to the Live!'s on the boarder between choppy+broken (which causes either a breakdown in the buffer, requiring a flush (pause/play)) and failure to start. This is usually around the 400ms/9Kb settings. Thats a near half second delay when changing pitch settings, low-pass filters etc. Unberarable.

what makes you think that this purchase has to do with the tone controls? wink

well it does, I ain't playing mp3s and games with my subwoofer on the floor pumping out no bass, that's just pathetic, and i'm not going out and buying a whole new set, that's a waste of time, I hope Creative decides to do something with Tone Controls in Whistler, otherwise, i'll just go and buy a new card.
