INFERNO2000 0 Posted October 6, 2000 Got a general question that is destined to screw me up, but here goes: I'll be painting my beige system this next weekend black. The panels are no problem, and luckily, I just ordered a black Floppy(my second one, since the first seems to be proprietary ). My question is this: My CD-ROM drives are two different shades of grey....my DVD the Compaq Grey, and my RW standard PC beige. I planned on painting the face plates black, but not the tray, or buttons, or dials, etc. Of course to do this properly, I will be required to remove the face plates. There is no longer a warranty on the drives, so painting won't ruin that. My questions are specifically: will paint at all disrupt the drives? I don't want anything gumming up on me..and are there any tricks to removing faceplates, or will it be pretty standard and simple? Share this post Link to post
DosFreak 2 Posted October 6, 2000 Simple man. Just unsrew 'em and yank 'em off. Spray paint and let dry. The reattach. Share this post Link to post
INFERNO2000 0 Posted October 6, 2000 Good No problems to worry about then What do you think? Contrasting buttons--good or bad? Share this post Link to post
ByronT 0 Posted October 6, 2000 Does anyone else get the feeling that INFERNO has WAY TOO MUCH time on his hands? That he spends too much time on the way his PC looks - like some do with their car (at least the car will last more than a year or two...) I'm just messing with ya, INFERNO. I had to show all my buddies my case after I modified it with the two fans in the side of it. Do let me warn you with the plastic face plates - you get the wrong type of paint, and you'll start to have face plates that are melting. As an alternative (for next time), why don't you look into getting a short equipment rack (some are 48")? And then you can get you a cooooool 4U (or even 5U) rackmount case, that you can setup with hot-swap harddrives, and redundant power supplies? Check out the rackmount equipment offered by Enlight and Antec (though Enlight's is better.) Later! Share this post Link to post
INFERNO2000 0 Posted October 6, 2000 I already did But Rackmounts cost too much...although I would definitely take one My case right now is black, and having 2 different colored cdroms, plus a different looking floppy... I'm getting a black floppy... But the CDROMS are staying... Any recomendations on paint? I need it to paint metal and plastic. I've thought about the Testor's Model Spray paint that I used years ago to paint those model airplanes...I know it works well on metal, plastic, and wood...but I also have thought about the paint my parents used to paint the railing outside our old house black...I used it to paint the frame to my ALICE pack, and it worked really well. and as for why black? Because this case looks pretty damned nice And if nothing else, this is my hobby..not enough new airplane models to satisfy my urges I'm also looking into case badges... the Square will have the Powered By Asus Pegasus....but I'm also wanting an Intel Inside, an Evil Inside, and maybe something that warns little kitties and kiddies to stay away(I'm looking at over 500 CFM ) Any recommendations on sites that show modded cases? Sparkhard 0 Posted October 9, 2000 Hey, I just painted my new Enlight case black. I used Rustoleum. i got it at home depot for about 3 bucks a can. It worked out great. I used almost both cans b/c i put a good second coat. I also tried to spray it over with a clear Lacquer, it messed me up , so dont do that. : ) just remember to remove the power buttons and stuff like that and paint them seperate.. In case you are wondering, It came out looking great and the rustoleum is very durable and it will hold up to any possible heat that may occur. Good luck , Sparkhard P.S. this is pretty obvious but, try real hard to make that paint go on even. it shows up a lot more on a black surface when you screw up. Share this post Link to post
Sparkhard 0 Posted October 9, 2000 oh sorry , here is a URL for case mods. actually the site isn't completly finished but i think they will eventually have some stuff up. http://pcextreme.net/mods.html Share this post Link to post
INFERNO2000 0 Posted October 9, 2000 Ran out to Menards yesterday and picked up 2 cans of Rustoleum Hammered Black finish. Looks really nice on the inside of my old case... I plan on using 2 or 3 coats on everything but the buttons(not painting those so it'll contrast) Share this post Link to post
