INFERNO2000 0 Posted October 15, 2000 I bought a couple Sunon 120mm(113 CFM each)fans that I'm, using in my case...heavy duty steel(plastic can kiss my @$$)....but I didn't read the package, and it turns out they're AC Powered. Which, although it means an extra cord coming out of my pc, is pretty sweet, now that my Powersupply only has work on powering the other 10 fans My question is this: The plugs are professional(the ones that go into the fan). I heard the guy that sold these to me mention something about AC noise?(I took it back the next day to see why they weren't working on my computer--he showed me that they were AC)...would I notice any problem? For the record, the plugs are being fed through the back through an Wide SCSI port hole that is unused... Share this post Link to post
euankirkhope 0 Posted October 15, 2000 The noise shouldn't cause any effects. If it is magnetically induced, IE the cables are running next to other data cables, then there is the possibility of corruption, but I can't really see any problems. I'm assuming the fans are 12/24Vac, if they're 110/240Vac then the induction from the fans onto the power supply (via mains) should be compensated by the PC switching power supply, and internal filters. Again there is the induced noise, which will be incresed by the higher voltage. Yet still relatively insignificant. Bottom line is: The noise by these 2 fans will most likely be less than your other 10 DC fans. The use of AC external supply is that it isn't adding noise to the internal power supplys. Just keep the wiring tidy, and offosite the motherboard side for high V stuff! If the guy who sold the fans stated stuff about noise then I personally, would assume that they are intended for medium-heavy plant use, like on the back of refridgerators, at the top of large 19" rack cupboards, not in PC's. The fans were in the computer aisle...so who knows? I just know they put out plenty of air Audio noise isn't that bad...it'll just blend in with the rest of the computer... Signal noise shouldn't be a problem, as the only thing this will pass by is a 92mm exhaust fan, and the top of my video card...
