IRQL_NOT_LESS_ OR_EQUAL

Recommended Posts

Guys,

After around 10-20 minutes, windows crashes with the following blue screen:

IRQL_NOT_LESS_ OR_EQUAL

I have tried every option in bios to work.

I have got a Geforce 2 MX/Via 2X/Windows 2000

I once had a big e-mail discussion about this error with Gravis tech as their driver periodically causes it. They said that M$ says the error is caused by the HAL layer in the OS. Something about if a driver causes a piece of hardware to lockup or something and then keeps sending the hardware requests to do a task. Then the buffer that stores commands for the HAL fills up and can't be purged. Of course I've never been able to substantiate that explanation, but I suppose it's a place to start.

Review all your current drivers looking for any sign of problems. Try removing and installing them again, etc. The only driver that causes that with my system is the Gravis joystick driver. I just have to disable it when running certain games.
