Down8 0 Posted November 7, 2000 Shortwinded question: How do I set a drive as removable, so I don't have to leave my external bay on all the time? Longwinded version: OK, I got an Adaptec 2940U from a friend to replace my dying AHA-1535. So I've been testing all my old SCSI drives to see which ones are dead, and which ones just looked dead because of the old card. I found 3 that work [so far], 730MB, 1.5GB and 2GB [yes, they are old drives]. I threw one on the inside of my case [not much room for others], and two in my external SCSI bay. Now, I will only be using the external ones as a place to throw ISOs before I get them burned, so the case doesn't need to be on all the time. I want to set these two disks as removable drives. I cut the power to the external bay, and a warning popped up that said something to the effect of: "Unsafe removal of drive. Blah blah blah. [X] Check here to have this image displayed in the task bar for easy removal of this drive." I left the box checked, and even rebooted, but I never saw that icon in my systray. So, I go to troubleshooter, and it says that I should set it as removable by going through the 'uninstall/unplug hardware' routine. OK, I do that, but nothing is listed in the box for me to set as removable. everywhere I look, it still says "Local disk", instead of "Removable disk". I remeber that there is just a check box in the drive properties to set it as removable in Win98, but there's nothing like that in Win2K [server, SP1]. I can just "Scan for hardware changes", but I would rather have them set as actual removable drives.
