INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE

Hi,

Guys, I have Windows 2000 installed on a HD. When I putt that HD into another computer with a different motherboard and stuff. It gives me an error @ starting saying

 

"INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE"

for one thing, don't move the hard drive out, Windows 2000 has stored all of that information for your one computer in there, including any possible hard drive information. Take it from experience man, when I got a new mobo, I had to format and reinstall Windows again, because it's a lot safer than trying to have Windows detect all of your new stuff and remove the old.

But Is there a way to get around it without reinstalling. Windows 98 works fine. Detects the stuff @ startup.

probably caused by the original pc having ACPI installed and the second one not supporting it

it tries to fire up ACPI cant find it so it tells u that

It's happeneing because windows can't find the drivers for what ever is controlling your hard drive. Initially it boots up using the bios drivers, then switches to its own 32 bit versions. If they ain't then then you'll get this message.

 

I don't think there is any way around this bar reinstalling. I know it's a bit of a pain, but as jduimage image says, reinstalling is a much safer thing to do, you'll probably come across countless problems, even if you do get the current installation working in the other machine.

You can't be more wrong then that

Win2k can't boot cuz it stores information on the HD Controller, that is why when you ghost or switch drives to a system with a different board or even a different revision of the board win2k will not boot.

I don't have a link any more but if you search windows info. base you will find a little program that removes the controller info so windows redetects it.
