JediBaron 0 Posted November 21, 2000 Just loaded in the new beta bios ver 1005.03e. Finally, I can run my Geforce at AGP 4x and it's perfectly stable. I have all the default options loaded in the BIOS w/optimal settings and everything's sweet. I've run it through heavy D3d testing which normally would kill my Geforce when the board was set to 4x, but they all run sweet now I'm sure that this new BIOS will also fix other Nvidia problems. I can honestly say that that was my last performance hurtle that I wanted to leap with this machine. Now my universe is complete. LOL. clutch 1 Posted November 21, 2000 Cool! Now I have a favor to ask of you. I just got a PIII 800 and a new AOpen motherboard, and would like to know how it does against your box. What kind of framerates do you get in Q3? Here are my specs: PIII 800 @ 880 (8x110) AOpen AX34 (Via Apollo Pro 133A R 1.04 BIOS) 256MB RAM @ 100MHz GeForce SDR 25 GB IBM IDE HD (ATA/33) SB Live! MP3 Samsung DVD-ROM SD-604 I usually have a modified Q3 config, but I will run it stock and see what I get for framerate. ------------------ Regards, clutch Share this post Link to post

Crusade_Asus 0 Posted November 23, 2000 Those of us with problems are using aa A7V! Not a K7V!!! But does a K7V have a Promise 100 contoller? I had one K7V before, ran without any problems.... :-/ Believed that upgrading would make everyting easier... Share this post Link to post
JediBaron 0 Posted November 23, 2000 Everything works perfect for me . . . Operating System: Windows 2000 Pro sp1 (running fully PNP w/ ACPI) Processor: AMD K7 T-Bird 800@900(1.88V,+4degC) w/ 256 Megs PC133 Motherboard: Asus K7a (1005.03e BIOS) w/ the newest Via 4 in 1, ASUS Promise 100 drivers b25 Hard Drive: Maxtor 1536H2 on the Promise 100 Video: Asus 6600 SGRAM w/ Asus sba bios (AGP Geforce 256,32meg - Nvidia drivers v6.47) Sound: SB 128 PCI (1373 chip w/ 5.12.01.4035 WDM drivers - certified) Modem: USR 56K PCI Network: NETGEAR FA310TX Fast Ethernet Adapter (PCI 10/100 card) SCSI: PCI Advansys SCSI Host Adapter CD Burner: Smart&Friendly 4x SCSI Printer: Epson Stylus 740 (USB) Scanner: UMAX Astra 1220U (USB) Misc: Creative PC-DVD 5X drive, USB Intellimouse Optical w/ intellipoint 3.2 (ver. 3.20.0.484), Gravis Xterminator gamepad with 4.2.0.2 driver DirectX: 8.0 (4.08.00.0400) Share this post Link to post
clutch 1 Posted November 23, 2000 To run a timedemo, enter the game, and use the "~" key (under the escape key) and type: timedemo 1 (hit enter) demo demo001 (hit enter) It will run demo001 as fast as possible, then it will go back to the menu. You can then hit the "~" key again and it will show you the Frames Per Second (FPS). If you want to exit the timedemo mode, pull down the console again and type: timedemo 0 (hit enter) Let us know what you are running the game at (1024x768 or 800x600, 16 bit or 32bit, etc). ------------------ Regards, clutch Share this post Link to post
JediBaron 0 Posted November 24, 2000 Alright dude, here you are: 1024x768 High=55.6 Normal=77.2 800x600 High=85.8 Normal=101.3 640x480 High=102.3 Normal=107.2 As you can see at 640x480 I start to get close to the limits of my card. The maximum speed that I can get at the absolute worst game settings is ~114fps. I normally run the game at 800x600 in high quality Later Share this post Link to post
clutch 1 Posted November 24, 2000 Nicely done. Here are my specs: 1024x768 High=50.27 Normal=75.5 800x600 High=79.3 Normal=93.6 And I don't run 640x480 on my main machine. Also, my specs changed slightly: PIII 800 (8x100) AOpen AX34 (Via Apollo Pro 133A R 1.04 BIOS) 256MB RAM @ 133MHz GeForce SDR 25 GB IBM IDE HD (ATA/33) SB Live! MP3 Samsung DVD-ROM SD-604 Sounds like your machine is all better now. I run a modified config with these commands to get rid of extra crap and keep the frames up: seta cg_drawgun 0 seta cg_draw3dicons 0 seta cg_gibs 0 seta cg_brassTime 0 These commands simplify the console and get rid of the weapon view. The "cg_gibs" command cans some of the extraneous graphics in a major kill zone. When using this, my 93.6 fps jumps to 112.3fps. ------------------ Regards, clutch Share this post Link to post
JediBaron 0 Posted November 24, 2000 Sweet so it looks like these machines are pretty much up to par now. once you add in my extra 100 mhz then we'd perform pretty even. Kul! I'll try your tweeks too Share this post Link to post
tristan777 0 Posted November 24, 2000 hummmmm.... does that drawguns 0 command make the guns dissapear? yukky... i think i'd rather know what i was shooting and take the few FPS hit. i'm gonna get that bios update and see if maybe it will clear up all my damn d3d problems... JediBaron 0 Posted November 26, 2000 Oh geeze, I just realizewd today that I screwed up my speck sheet text file without realizing it. I accidently had k7a listed as my board instead of the A7V. DOH!!!!! Sorry about the damn typo Operating System: Windows 2000 Pro sp1 (running fully PNP w/ ACPI) Processor: AMD K7 T-Bird 800@900(1.88V,+4degC) w/ 256 Megs PC133 Motherboard: Asus A7V (1005.03e BIOS) w/ the newest Via 4 in 1, ASUS Promise 100 drivers b25 Hard Drive: Maxtor 1536H2 on the Promise 100 Video: Asus 6600 SGRAM w/ Asus sba bios (AGP Geforce 256,32meg - Nvidia drivers v6.47) Sound: SB 128 PCI (1373 chip w/ 5.12.01.4035 WDM drivers - certified) Modem: USR 56K PCI Network: NETGEAR FA310TX Fast Ethernet Adapter (PCI 10/100 card) SCSI: PCI Advansys SCSI Host Adapter CD Burner: Smart&Friendly 4x SCSI Printer: Epson Stylus 740 (USB) Scanner: UMAX Astra 1220U (USB) Misc: Creative PC-DVD 5X drive, USB Intellimouse Optical w/ intellipoint 3.2 (ver. 3.20.0.484), Gravis Xterminator gamepad with 4.2.0.2 driver DirectX: 8.0 (4.08.00.0400) Share this post Link to post

Yeah, I know that some people like seeing the weapon, but for me it just gets in the way and obscures my field of vision. Plus, I get the bonus of a few frames to boot. I go by the ammo icon to see what I am using, and I wear a headset so I find listening for the rail charge much easier than watching the color change of the weapon itself. ------------------ Regards, clutch Share this post Link to post
