Wrath 0 Posted December 26, 2000 A warning to any of you who may be in the market for a new NIC -- my favorite 3com NIC isn't supported in win2k. I learned this the hard way. I recently chose to move over to Win2k instead of WinME...something of a spontanious decision after I had already bought my hardware. However, the NIC I had purchased is incompatable. Although the 3Com Fast Ethernet PCI Network Interface Card (Model No. 3CSOHO100-TX) states that it is compatable with all major operating systems, there is no existing driver provided by 3Com for this NIC in on a Win2k system. If you're in the market for a NIC to be run on an NT 4 system, or a system with a 9x kernal, its a great card, but after this my opinion of the entire company had dropped substantially due to their lack of support for one of the biggest Operating Systems in existance. ------------------ Marc Chadwick / Divine Wrath "There are three kinds of people in the world -- Those who can count, and those who can't." DosFreak 2 Posted December 26, 2000 "Windows 2000 Note: The OfficeConnect Fast Ethernet NIC was designed for the small business customer and supports the operating systems most small business customers are using today -- Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT. According to market research and customer feedback, many are considering migrating to Windows 2000, but will likely not do so until mid-late calendar year 2001. We are in the process of finalizing the Windows 2K requirements, and will be providing this support in a future release of the 3CSOHO100-TX" Weird. Every 3COM NIC in our shop has Windows 2000 Drivers. 3COM has excellent driver support. Don't know why they don't support this one.... Share this post Link to post
Wrath 0 Posted December 26, 2000 That's exactly what went through my mind...a split second before the rage of having wasted money hit It is wierd, isn't it? And this is one of the more popular cards too...in fact my school recommends it. At any rate, I have laying around here a SOHOware NIC which I purchased because I needed to install one in these home computers for my family. They're running Win98se here, and the SOHOware NIC supports Win2k. I've read lots of really good things about this company, and was wondering if anyone has any opinions about them before I go ahead and do this? ------------------ Marc Chadwick / Divine Wrath "There are three kinds of people in the world -- Those who can count, and those who can't."
