DaveInVA 0 Posted December 14, 2000 I bought a SB Live! Platinum and installed it and it works with the WDM drivers but when I try to install LiveWare 2 or 3 for Win2k it always says "No SBLive! detected, make sure it is installed properly" and exits the install. When you install the board in any free PCI slot and turn on the puter, Win2k Hardware Wizard finds it and installs the Creative SBLIVE! WDM driver and the Game Port Driver. But if you try install LiveWare for win2k it doesn't detect the card. It does play sound with the WDM drivers. I sent the board back to Creative and they claim board is good. Tech support is no help. If you try and install even just the downloaded win2k drivers from the Creative website it claims it can't detect the board and won't install them and exits. Asus A7V + Duron 600 Creative Labs SB Live! 64MB Voodoo Rush D-Link 10/100 20GB IDE HD Generic IDE CD-ROM I can't get the SB Live! to work under Windows 2000 to save my life, and I'm going nuts trying to figure out why. The SB Live! works fine under Windows 98, and it even works under QNX. I have an SB Live! + Windows 2000 on my computer and it works great. My Computer: Abit BH6 + Slot1-to-S370 + Celeron 600 Creative Labs SB Live! 192 MB Matrox Millennium another Matrox Millennium Adaptec U2W SCSI 1GB SCSI HD 4GB IDE HD 30GB IDE HD Yamaha 2484EZ IDE CD burner Zoom 56K internal faxmodem 3Com 10/100 So anyway, back to my brother's computer. Win2000 detects the SB Live! card but doesn't recognize what it is. I installed the drivers from the SB Live! CD, and also the drivers from Creative Labs' website, using the regular installer that they give you. Absolutely no effect. I tried to install the drivers manually through the Device Manager, but Win2000 doesn't think the SB Live!'s .inf files apply to the SB Live!, and won't accept them. I've checked IRQ's, I've moved the card to different slots, and nothing seems to help. I'm starting to think there might be an issue with SB Live! + Windows 2000 + VIA chipset. DaveInVA 0 Posted January 8, 2001 DareBear, I still haven't gotten my SBLive! Platinum to work under Win2k with Liveware. Mine like yours minewill work fine under Win98ME. Creatives Techless support is no help and never even got back with me about the problem after many calls to them. I wonder if this problem only shows up with the ASUS A7V? Stephen Van Siclen 0 Posted January 8, 2001 You might try logging out and logging in as administrator. As far as I can see you can install the driver first and then reinstall the entire package. Try to install using the setup exe and when it fails it should have left the wdm driver in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\Lw3w2k\Audio\English\Wdmdrv If it didn't, you can still get to it during the setup when it displays that no valid hardware was found, instead of hitting ok first wind your way to this directory: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\Lw3w2k\Audio\English\ and copy the Wdmdrv directory to your desktop. Manually install the drivers from your device manager. Then rerun the setup, it should detect the card now. This worked for me with the download version of liveware3 for 2k. DaveInVA 0 Posted January 8, 2001 I did the entire installation as admin and tried it many ways and it never dectects the sblive!. I even completely did a clean format and reinstall of win2K from scratch. Share this post Link to post

However, if you want to try the wdm drivers from the Liveware 3 for 2000 distribution from june I had good luck with those. I could email them to you (2.3meg zip. On a side note, I checked at www.dejanews.com/usenet "a7v sblive w2k" and found the horror once you actually get these installed. There was at least one post from someone who claimed to have good luck with the live in slot3 at irq10. However, there seems to be a lot of lockups and crackling with the live once liveware is installed. Also a lot about NOLF crashing Win2k completely because of the sblive. THere is even a post about the A7V Clearly Requiring Additional Programming but I don't own an A7V so I wouldn't be much more help than giving you some different drivers to try Share this post Link to post
DaveInVA 0 Posted January 8, 2001 I tried both Liveware for 2000 from the CD that came with it and the Liveware for 2000 version 3 from the creative website. I have tried the card in every slot and it always says it can't detect the card. The sblive! does work with the WDM driver off the Win2k CD and does make sound. I have also heard some horror stories about problems with the SBLIVE! and ASUS A7V combo. Share this post Link to post
Darebear 0 Posted January 9, 2001 Success!! I got my SB Live! to work under Windows 2000 on my brother's computer. Here's what I had to do. (This may or may not work for you. I'll assume you guys have a clue and I don't have to go into step-by-step detail here. I'll just talk concepts.) The original problem was that Win2k didn't identify the sound card as an SB Live! after running the normal LiveWare installer that comes with the card. (or from Creative Labs' web site) I went into the Device Manager, and brought up the wizard to reinstall the sound card's driver. I told it to use the NT4 driver on the SB Live!'s CD, found here: [CD drive letter]:\AUDIO\ENGLISH\NT4DRV\OEMSETUP.INF. Win2k told me the driver wasn't signed, wasn't written specifically for my hardware, yadda yadda. Yes to everything. Now that that was done, I knew the NT4 driver wouldn't work, but at least Win2k was now identifying the card as an SB Live!. Now, I could use the wizard again to update the drivers. I pointed the wizard here: C:\Program Files\Creative\Program\upddrv2k.inf. (This was put on my hard drive by the LiveWare installer that I ran before.) Bingo, it updated the drivers to the Win2k versions. Just to be sure I got everything, I ran the LiveWare installer again. It didn't have any trouble this time. I hope this helps out.
