falcon26 0 Posted January 18, 2001 Ok I have tried to install Windows 2000 on my Dad's computer and everytime it installs in say " Disk I/O Error " now what the heck does this mean? I can install windows 95, 98, and ME no problem on his computer, but windows 2000 just won't do it. He has 256 megs of ram, a P3 500 a Abit motherboard with the I815 chipset and a Qantuam 20 gig ultra 66 dma hard drive. What am I doing wrong? falcon26 Ps. When it reboots it say " Up[censored] DMI information " and it hangs their as well, but only with windows 2000 Share this post Link to post
EddiE314 0 Posted January 18, 2001 how are you installing it? booting the win2k cd or the win2k floppies? Share this post Link to post
falcon26 0 Posted January 18, 2001 I have tried both. I tried booting from the Cd-Rom and I tried the Floppy Disks, none work. The funny thing is, it will boot from the Cd-rom install all the way, then ask me to reboot, which I do and that's when it goes through the bios startup, listings all my stuff etc... and then it says something like verifying DMI configuration and that's when it just hangs and I have to hit clt-alt-del to reboot, and then it does the same thing it hangs when it gets to this thing called DMI. falcon26 Share this post Link to post
Wolf87a 0 Posted January 19, 2001 That means a bad memory chip. Windows 98 will run and not notice a bad memory stick but Windows 2000 will either not install completely or never boot later. Share this post Link to post
