Is this a Mobo or OS problem

Recommended Posts

I am having the wierdest problem ever on my Win2K machine. For some wierd reason whenever I use my USB modem to connect to the net, the machine goes all juddery and slow (think 8Mb P60 trying very hard to run Office 97). I had no problems with a standard modem, so we know it is USB related. The funny thing is though that although the same problem exists in WinMe (dual booting for a while before it was booted off the disk), it is nowhere near as pronounced. I have as per usual updated every driver etc, been to Windows Update and got everything but to no avail. I've listed my specs below, if anyone has an idea, please help.

AMD T-Bird 1GHz

ABIT KT7 Mobo

384Mb PC133

30Gb Seagate Barracuda ATA66

DVD, CD-RW, CD

32MB AGP GEFORCE 256 DDR

SB PCI 64

Modem is Conexant HCF V.90 USB

FCC ID : H52PT-3050

I don't have a KT133 based motherboard, or for that matter an AMD K7 system....but I know I;ve read about KT133s(namely abit Kt7) having USB problems in 2000.

here's a few links that might be helpful and then again, might not

Yeah, in 2000 you need to go to USB Root Hub properties and deselect error checking, then go into BIOS and select that "KT7_CLK" setting and change it to default, not optimised. I did this, and the system is mucho nice-o.
