oldspice 0 Posted February 6, 2001 when i do a disk speed check my hard drive is going 33 kb/s but it shows using 75% of my cpu.it is a maxtor 30G on a maxtor promise ata100 pci card. when i was using my maxtor 7G ata33 drive it would go 15 kb/s but would only use 10% max of my cpu.this drive seemed just as fast when navigating windows explorer, etc. is this normal for the ata100 or is something wrong? Brian Frank 0 Posted February 6, 2001 No you shouldn't have that much cpu usage. I barely have any usage when I look, but even on heavy usage it should suck that much of your cpu. Also, if you dont have the latest drivers for the ATA100 controller get them off the manufacturers website. If you've got the Asus A7V go to Asus site and download them from there. Oh, and since your using your drive under the ATA100 controller, Win2k thinks its a SCSI device not an IDE device. Share this post Link to post
