three 0 Posted February 7, 2001 nobody has any suggestions?? :-( This is the main reason I got rid of my K6-2 450MHz because of the video freezing on me..I had previously thought it was due to the ALi chipset but looks like it's doing the same with the VIA one...Could it be that I have a defective Video Card? or could it be something else? anybody?? Galilee 0 Posted February 7, 2001 When do you freeze? While playing? or on the desktop. Since its the same problem as earlier its either the Video card or the RAM (if its the same) And do run the ram on 100MHz. I can also see that you have a lot of PCI cards. There might be a IRQ problem. If the problem continues, take out all the cards and set them in one after the other, and boot between to check if everything is ok. Share this post Link to post
TomAL 0 Posted February 7, 2001 Is your RAM a good make? do you have at least a 300W power supply that is AMD approved? I have random freezes and changed my ram to 128 CRUCIAL PC133 and a Enermax 330W psu and it solved all my problems. Tom Share this post Link to post
three 0 Posted February 7, 2001 have a 350Watt power supply...the ram is pretty not the best quality, cheap ram, NEC i think...anyways, i'll try and remove the pc100 stick and just use the pc133 stick and see if it fixes the problem though both sticks are cheapos Share this post Link to post
Damien 0 Posted February 7, 2001 Try clocking down the speed of you ram - not just the fsb speed, but also the memory timings themselves. The option on my ABIT KA7 allows settings of SDRAM 8NS, SDRAM 10NS, Normal, Medium, Fast and Turbo, you should find this in the bios - can't guarentee its the same for your board though. three 0 Posted February 8, 2001 i had already had both mem slots set at 'normal', the only thing i could think of was the pc100 mem stick that 'could' be causing the problem since i had that stick on the old setup as well (bought the pc133 stick with the T-Bird). oh well, i removed it last night and only have the pc133 stick in. if the problem persists then 1. the pc100 is not the problem or 2. the pc133 is also sh1tty since they are the same brand (Pro Joe, name of memory stick ) it has only been 12 hrs since then so i'll wait and see if i can have it running for more than 5 days atleast before i reboot and mess with the bios. three 0 Posted February 26, 2001 well, it froze again with just the PC133 stick ram in, so i ended up putting that other PC100 stick back in and downloaded the AMD/AGP patch, loaded it up, rebooted and it's working fine now 4 days without freezing, even with a graphic intensive screensaver running while i'm not home. looks like this solved the problem *fingers crossed* Share this post Link to post
