Problems with Soundblaster Live Platinum 5.1

Recommended Posts

I've formatted my HDs and I'm going to use Win2k. Now I've installed Win2k the 5th time and always when I install the Driver for my Soundcard I get the following boot error and Win2k is only usable in Recovery Mode:

PFN_LIST_CORRUPT

What's wrong with that f.... driver !!!

Where do I get a new one (if Creative has developed one ;-))?

Just two ideas: move the sound card to slot three on the motherboard, if it has an Irq.

Slot one is shared with AGP and slot two may be shared with an ATA controller.

Try not to use the CD-Rom and CD-RW as master and slave.

Thanks for the Ideas.

Every Card has its own IRQ. I've the IRQs configured as shown:

Serial bus controller 9

Serial bus controller 9

Multimedia Device 9

Network Controller 5

Display Controller 11

Mass Storage Controller 10

I've the HD's on the Promise and the CD-Rom on the Primary Master and the CDRW on the Secondary Master.

you have the latest BIOS right i read something to the effect that the promise controller was having IRQ problems with one of the PCI slots.

I heard it too. But in my case this isn't possible because the Promise shares with the 2nd PCI slot and that slot is free !!

It must be a driver problem.

If your modem is wave enabled it should be removed from the motherboard while you install the SoundBlaster software. Choose sound devices in Multimedia panel before putting back the modem because Windows OS often fail to distinguish between Modem and Sound Card.

Is this maybe the same Problem as with my SB Live! and a PCI modem card???? - Do I have to uninstall the pci-modem too????

Sorry, I've no modem installed. I've DSL :-))

But I've solved my problem (I hope so)!!

I just downloaded the new Live Ware 3.0 and installed it. Then I re-installed the origninal software pack but before I added the original Win2k driver on the Creative CD-ROM. I don't know wether it was the new Live Ware or the manually added driver from the CD. Perhaps the Installation always installed the wrong driver.

Unless youve got the latest BIOS update for the A7V, PCI slot 2 shares an IRQ with the Promise ATA100 controller. There are only two things you can do: update the BIOS or leave PCI slot 2 open. Also try disabling the serial and printer ports if your not using them.

Also, this got me out of a fix, go into BIOS and set it to the defaults on the exit menu.

Wurked for me. wink
