Down8 0 Posted March 20, 2001 Has anyone been able to get this scanner to work rightr in Win2K? The install app closes itself with the 'OS not supported" error, and a manual install gives nothing but a process that pulls 100% processor usage and a little movement from the scanner. Picked it up for $50 today, and would like to not have to return it or house it until I build a WinME-based system. Anyone got work-around ideas? -bZj Share this post Link to post
EddiE314 0 Posted March 20, 2001 have you tried running it with the appcompat toolkit? Share this post Link to post
HarU 0 Posted March 20, 2001 I have the 5300C at work, and if it is anything like the 2100, then i might have a solution. Put the disc in, but when the autorun pops up, just close it. Go into your CDROM directory and browse the CD. There will be a folder in there that says Win9x and one that says Win2k. The autorun defaults to the Win9x install. Anyway, open up the Win2k and run the setup. Leave your scanner unplugged until after the setup is done. Then it will ask you to plug the scanner in. It should either detect it right away, or it will after you reboot. If the win2k folder isn't directly below the CD, it may be a subfolder. For instance, if there is an "Install" folder, then the win2k may be under that. So, just browse the CD until you find it. If you are trying to d/l the drivers online, you will have a hell of a time getting it installed. I had to get the CD. Good Luck Share this post Link to post
Down8 0 Posted March 21, 2001 I haven't tried ApCompat yet - OK, just tried it: "MSVCRT.DLL is not compatible with Win32. Click OK to terminate application." On HP's web-page, they say that Win2K isn't "supported right now" for this scanner, but in the hpgtrsti.inf file I found this: Quote: ;-------------------------------------- ; Scanner Info Section -- win2000 section ;-------------------------------------- [sJ2100C.Scanner.NT] DriverVer=08/01/2000,1.00.0000.1 Include=sti.inf Needs=STI.USBSection SubClass=StillImage DeviceType=1 DeviceSubType=0x1 Capabilities=1 AddReg=SJ2100C.AddReg.NT CopyFiles=SJ2100C.CopyFiles DelFiles=SJ2100C.DelSysFiles DeviceData=SJ2100C.DeviceData UninstallSection=Uninstall.Usb.Scanner.NT ICMProfiles="sRGB Color Space Profile.icm" VendorSetup="hpsjvset,InstallScanJetSoftware 2100C" So, there is something there. Win2K recognized the scanner in the device manager, and the software installed [manually]. I looked, and there aren't any Win2K or Win9x directories on the CD, just different language directories, and some extra apps from Adobe, et al. This sucks. I think I'll be returning it tomorrow. We'll see. -bZj Share this post Link to post
