How powerfull need a PSU be?

Recommended Posts

I have a fairly stuffed PC and I’m experiencing some problems that might just be power related.

If I start a calculation that is requiring a lot of CPU power (Task Manager / Performance), the fan / HD noise pitch changes. Could that be a sign of shortness of power? My PSU is 230W.

I have also experienced loss of data form the main 60 GB partition resulting in total system crash. There are no physical errors on neither of the disks.

Any help, thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

8) Go out now and get a 300 watt PSU immediately!

You've got so much stuff, the psu cant handle the drain well enough.

I dont know about scsi, but they seem to have a need for juice.

Of course, it can't be garanteed that your problems will stop with better power, but it is a good place to start, considering your many devices. Did these problems only show up when you added a new piece of hardware, or was there any other instigator of the problem?

Enermax is a good PSU maker, as is Sparkle, so look into those.
