Banshee Under win2k

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I have an Voodoo Banshee 16mb AGP, and i can't play under Win 2000, i tried a driver what i'm dowloaded from here, it's working, and some game runs with it, but not mutch(and what i really want is not running :(( )

I had an Geforce1 256 32mb DRR for a few days, and with the newest detonator every game ran very fine.

Oh yes, allmost forgot, i ofcourse dl-ed the official banshee driver for windows 2000, but with that my windows failed to give a picture, black background, and a litle line center... nothing else, so if someone knows something about Banshee + Win2000 + Gaming that could help me out pls write it down!

Thanks for all..

Bier

(Sorry for my english, its not good smile )

Well I'm not up on the current drivers for the Banshee but I do know that that card hasn't been popular since early '99. Windows 2000 retailed in Feb 2000 and the drivers have never been all that good. Even you have noticed that your Geforce supports more games than your Banshee. This is simply because the Banshee drivers are crap because they really haven't been updated as they should. Considering 3dfx is dead and is not likey ever to come back... I would say buy a card that is currently supports. Nvidia TNT and up and ATI Radeon and up will be your best choices.

*Isn't it amazing that Nvidia's TNT is STILL supported as well as the Geforce's while ATI's Radeon is their only well supported card. AMAZING! 8) 8)

I know about that, but if i would have money for a new card i would buy an gf2 mx... but i don't have at the moment, but i would need something to solve my problem with banshee + win2k + gamez smile

And you're right, 3dfx doesn't cared about the drivers, 1 driver update in a half year and thats all...

I can solve your problem with the banshee. I used it in Windows 2000 with no problems for 4 months. I used the 3dfx "beta" drivers for Direct3D and for OpenGL I used the wickedGL drivers, I was able to run CounterStrike at 40-60 fps in 800X600 NS. Email me if you don't know where to find them. I'm not sure you can get the 3dfx beta drivers anymore, but the wickedGL are available. Email me or ICQ me for them I'll be happy to send. I also used Smoky's overclocking utility btw, I was able to up the memory & core both the 120Mhz with no problems. Above that however I could not run stabily.
