oldspice 0 Posted April 8, 2001 Can anyone recommend a sound card to be used under Win2k to create high quality professional recordings that include both live, and midi or sampled tracks.I had played around with cheap sound cards but found the reproduction quality to be terrible. I would like to still be able to play games, etc. Thanks Share this post Link to post
oldspice 0 Posted April 8, 2001 I was going to get a turtle beach santa cruz..but another poster said its recording quality was terrible. This led me to consider searching for a super high quality recording and reproduction sound card. If you are using a good card please let me know..would like to burn demo cd's for kicks and giggles..you know we all want to be a star. I just need to write one song for the Backstreet Boys and i'll never have to work again...NOT! Share this post Link to post
Vampyr 0 Posted April 9, 2001 What audio recording application do you plan on using? Personally i recommend Cakewalk because its fast and has a nice simple interface (unlike the fancy bloated confusing interface of cubase VST). For soundcards I recommend either the Creative/Emu APS or the Guillemot Maxis Studio ISIS XL. Both of these cards feature multiple inputs and fully accelerated DSP. For Addon cards go with the Yamaha DSP Factory. If you really want to get fancy you could even get a moderatly cheap peavy mixer that works via midi directly with Cakewalk. And a Line6 POD is also recommended. If you have lots of money and want to go Professional Audio I recommend A MacG4 ProTools system from Digidesign (they offer a Windows version but it blows). If you want to ask more questions email/msn me at fear_machine@hotmail.com or ICQ me 19901838 Share this post Link to post
oldspice 0 Posted April 9, 2001 To be honest with you, I bought Cakewalk 8 a long time ago and tried it with my Vortex cards and just never got the sound I was looking for.Midi sounded like a Casio keyboard and I could'nt record very many simultaneous live tracks so I just stuck with my analog Tascam recorder. I know there is a program called Giga sampler that says it requires a special type of sound card and I think that is what I am after. I play keyboard and guitar and would like to be able to write bass lines inside of a program with notation and have the bass played back from samples and then layer digital drums and live guitar and vocal tracks and be able to manipulate all of this on the fly.I am not a professional song writer..just an old amateur who loves music, so superior quality is not the MOST important thing but I would atleast like to be able to reproduce a believable digital sound that will atleast match the quality of my Tascam analog recorder. Thanks Share this post Link to post
Vampyr 0 Posted April 9, 2001 Go with cakewalk 9 ( i can track down an full version errr ummm full featured "trial" version for you ). Also, contact me on ICQ and I can send you a few mp3z of stuff I've recorded with cakewalk. ALso, i've done more reading and the Emu APS is the sound card to go with. Its basically a suped up SBLive!. Actually, the SBLive is a hacked down version of the EMU APS. Also, you will find digital soundfonts (digitally recorded MIDI samples) extremly useful in your recording. ICQ me at 19901838. get ICQ from www.icq.com Share this post Link to post
